Matthias Anton is regarded as one of the most versatile saxophonists in Germany. His cross-genre approach to playing and thinking forms the foundation of his exceptional musical work. Matthias Anton, born in 1979, discovered his passion for the saxophone at the age of 12. He initially received private lessons from Elmar Schäfer and Tom Timmler. At the age of 16, he became a junior student of jazz piano at the Trossingen University of Music. From 1998 onward, he studied saxophone at the Mannheim University of Music with Prof. Jürgen Seefelder. This was followed by a concert performance degree (KA) at the University of Music Stuttgart with Prof. Bernd Konrad from 2002 to 2005. Matthias Anton is a highly sought-after musician and educator in Germany and beyond. He is regularly invited to give masterclasses and concerts worldwide. He has participated in radio and CD productions for SWR, WDR, BR, and Deutschlandfunk, and his playing can be heard on more than twenty recordings, some of them internationally released, both as a bandleader and as a sideman. Among others, he has performed and worked with Peter Herbolzheimer, Jiggs Whigham, Ack van Rooyen, John Ruocco, David Haynes, Torsten de Winkel, Judy Niemack, José Cortijo, Jeanfrançois Prins, Maria Schneider, Ruud Ouwehand, Herbert Joos, Michael Wollny, Marla Glenn, The Wright Thing, The Weather Girls, Andrew Strong, and many more. As a classical saxophonist and in numerous crossover projects, he has collaborated with institutions such as the International Bach Academy Stuttgart, the Rhineland-Palatinate State Philharmonic, the New Philharmonic Orchestra Berlin, the State Wind Orchestra of North Rhine-Westphalia, and the theatres in Konstanz, Aalen, and Rottweil, including: the German National Youth Jazz Orchestra, Glenn Miller Big Band, Swing Time Big Band, Big Band Convention, Summit Orchestra, HP Ockert Big Band, Stuttgart Jazz Orchestra, Contemporary Big Band Project, and Latin Jazz Sinfónica. Since 2020, he has been the artistic director and bandleader of the Bosch Big Band. Since the summer semester of 2021, he has been Professor of Saxophone and Big Band Conducting at the Trossingen University of Music. Matthias Anton is an endorser of the saxophone company Henri Selmer Paris, the mouthpiece company Theo Wanne Classical Mouthpieces and exclusively plays reeds from the company Daddario-Woodwinds.
