Movie Sinfónica – A long world music suite in 3D

The oil painting by artist Irina Wolff could not be a better fit as the cover of the album, as the mixture of modern art and late-Romantic painting reflects the music: Influences from jazz, elements from late-Romantic orchestral literature, rhythms from Cuba and the Orient and sounds from modern film music. This connection makes Movie Sinfónica a kind of “world music suite in 3D,” which is further enhanced by the additional audio format Dolby Atmos. It is reminiscent of the film music genre, one that represents sonic openness like no other and is the most stylistically diverse.

The 11 compositions and the lyrics in “Aria” are rooted in the personal and highly intense experiences of composers Julia Diederich, Christoph König, Heiko Gottberg, and Matthias Anton. These experiences were brought to life with great dedication by 40 musicians of the GermanPops Orchestra, 5 percussionists, 9 big band brass players, electric guitar, electric and acoustic bass, piano, drums, 3 sound engineers, 9 singers of the Stuttgart State Opera Choir, and 15 singers of the SWR Vocal Ensemble Stuttgart, making them both audible and profoundly tangible. This is music that not only carries emotional experiences but also evokes inner films in the listener’s imagination; music that can give classical music lovers a sense of familiarity and jazz fans a spark of inspiration.

KALEIDOSKOP

The album “KALEIDOSKOP” by the Latin-Jazz Sinfónica Orchestra, with its finely tuned and interwoven rhythms and timbres, creates a kaleidoscope of jazzy symphonies, virtuoso, high-class solos, and cinematic symphonies, with some being introduced and accompanied by Latin rhythms. The compositions by Christoph König, Julia H. M. Diederich, Heiko Gottberg and Matthias Anton achieve a level of clarity and balance that creates moving moods and a fascinating audio experience.

JUST FOR TONIGHT

Published on 18 August 2023

Virtuosic, jazzy, symphonic. The term “symphonic jazz” perfectly sums up this piece. The fast and jazzy-virtuoso theme of guitar and piano is followed by an elegant piano solo that floats in space and time, introduced and accompanied by the orchestra in a tender but emotionally intense way. The following guitar solo breaks up the floating mood, then brings in the big band musicians and seamlessly returns to the theme with the orchestra and big band. “Just for tonight” – The outro grants the wish of finding peace for one night.

CARISSIMO

Published on 30 June 2023

Longing, loneliness, devotion, fulfilment, love, pain, hope, harmony. “Carissimo” describes them all. Partly simultaneous, partly sequential, it tells the moving life story of a couple in love. With this cinematic-symphonic work, Latin-Jazz Sinfónica gave its classical musicians their own stage and impressively demonstrates the variety of tonal colours contained in “Sinfónica.”

LUPUS

Published on 12 May 2023

“Lupus” is the first track on Latin-Jazz Sinfónica’s album, released in September.

The piece initially sounds light and carefree due to the swing medium, and so the listener probably asks themselves at the beginning what embodies the lupus, i.e. the dangerous wolf. The recurring, increasingly rhythmic condensations of the various jazz and orchestral instruments symbolise the encounters and the danger posed by the wolf. From the middle of the symphonic jazz piece, the drums drive the band and orchestra forward with greater intensity, reflecting the persistence of the wolf.
