The music of ARCO SINFÓNICA

The oil painting by artist Irina Wolff, which graces the cover of the second album Movie Sinfónica, could hardly reflect the music of the 57-piece orchestra more perfectly. The combination of modern, vibrant colours, imagination, expressive, clear forms, and passion is equally present in the music itself: influences from jazz, elements of late-Romantic orchestral literature, world music rhythms, and sounds from contemporary film scores.

Each composition is rooted in deeply personal and intense experiences of the composers Julia H. M. Diederich, Christoph König, Heiko Gottberg, and Matthias Anton, brought to life with great dedication by 40 musicians of the GermanPops Orchestra, five percussionists, nine big band brass players, electric guitar, electric and acoustic bass, piano, and drums. This is music that not only carries emotional experiences but also evokes inner films in the listener’s imagination; music that can give classical music lovers a sense of familiarity and jazz fans a spark of inspiration.

It is the distinctive signature of arranger Christoph König that weaves all the pieces together and defines the unmistakable sound of Arco Sinfónica. The symphonic “great arc” is not just a name but a guiding principle. Concerts by this orchestra unfold like a “world music suite in 3D,” reminiscent of the film music genre, a realm that stands for sonic openness and embraces the widest stylistic range of all.

Life, with all its ups and downs, challenges, inner movements and encounters, is so rich that one can draw on the full range of the human experience in composition. When you consider the great joy of being able to write music for a full symphony orchestra, accompanied by a full big band plus percussionists, transforming all the facets of human emotion into sound, you see a truly great gift in this.
