Jens Müller was born in Heilbronn and grew up in Gundelsheim am Neckar. He began learning the organ at the age of 9. He started playing the trumpet at the age of 13. From an early age, he listened to Glenn Miller and Count Basie records and would record Frank Sinatra from the radio at night with a cassette recorder. This set his path to jazz. His trumpet teachers included Eckard Baur, Bobby Shew, and Thomas Vogel. He went on to study jazz trumpet with Professor Hans-Peter Salentin at the University of Music in Würzburg.
