Uli Röser

Tenor trombone

Uli Röser lives and works in Esslingen am Neckar. Growing up in Göppingen, he learned to play the classical trombone and very soon discovered his love for jazz music in various big bands. He then studied jazz trombone under U.Gutscher in Stuttgart in the mid-90s. Through workshops, clinics, and his participation in both the State and National Jazz Orchestras, he received instruction from renowned musicians such as Adrian Mears, Erik and Bart van Lier, and Jiggs Whigham. He was a member of the independent brass band “Mardi Gras.bb” for over ten years, performing more than 600 concerts in Germany and abroad, and recording numerous albums and film soundtracks (including collaborations with Eumir Deodato). At the height of its success, the music magazine Rolling Stone named the band Germany’s best independent export. His work often moves between rock, pop and jazz. This was evident, for example, in the “Jazz Ensemble Baden Württemberg”, which has been touring in recent years with its programme “Doors without words”. However, his greatest passion lies in the various musical traditions of New Orleans. Artists such as Dr. John, Jon Cleary, and bands like the Dirty Dozen Brass Band count among his main influences. This affinity is also evident in his latest project: NOLA, a band featuring two trombones and a rhythm section, which playfully and energetically celebrates Second Line music.
